Many of my stories spring from the desire to answer the question, “Why?” Why was I seeing more mention of the nation’s opioid epidemic in East Tennessee and not in our region? My curiosity led to several cover stories for The Memphis Flyer, focusing on how the opioid crisis was unfolding here, the many lives were being effected or lost to addiction, and how community agencies, as well as state and local government, were responding to the crisis.
As a journalist and storyteller, my interests are far-ranging, though the environment, travel, parenting, and health issues hold a special place in my heart. I was a parenting magazine editor for 17 years at Contemporary Media, where I produced 206 issues and met roughly 12,033 deadlines. I am a fastidious researcher and writer with an eye for detail. As a full-time freelancer, I’m a regular contributor to Memphis magazine, National Parks Traveler.com and The Daily Memphian.com.
I have an affinity for the wild beauty of our National Parks. I love biking and hiking, and when not toiling behind my screen, I look for inspiration with my camera.
I am available for a wide range of freelance writing and editing projects. Contact me for my resume and rates.
